World 1-40: Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is one of those timeless classics that everybody knows. It paved the way for an entire great series of video games on many different consoles along the way. Come to think of it, this is probably the first time I ever actually beat the game by myself. I grew up watching my brother play it, and even started my own files quite a few times, but I don't think I ever actually saw it through to the end until now. I'm actually glad all the solutions to the puzzles were ingrained in my head, because I probably would have gone mental trying to figure some of them out. As it was, there were a few parts that nearly sent me over the edge because they were so completely infuriating. I managed to complete the game within a month (on and off), probably due to frustration and needing to cool off for a bit. Either way, this is a game I can see myself playing again and again, without hesitation. It is every bit as amazing as it sounds.

Oh and as a side note, I didn't realize that it tells you how many times you died throughout the game at the end. As you can see from the picture, I ended up dying 18 times. That's actually quite a lot, but rest assured I wasn't trying very hard to save my lives. In fact, I quite enjoyed killing myself off in bouts of frustration.

World 1-39: The New Super Mario Bros

This was a pretty cool game - new features added to an old classic really help bring Mario into the newer generations. It was a quick, fun play through and simple enough for anybody to pick up, regardless how much of a gamer they consider themselves to be.

World 1-38: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is a great game for co-op play. It's a pretty straight forward side scrolling beat 'em up game. You can choose between the main four characters of the series: Leonardo, Michaelangelo, Donatello, and my personal favourite, Raphael. Each turtle features his own weapon, and has different strengths and weaknesses. There are 10 levels in all, making the game a little more difficult (unless you change the settings) but still a fairly quick play through. There are some cool stages that drive away from the usual walking around and slashing enemies, such as Sewer Surfin'. In this level, you get to surf through the sewers in what can almost be called a bonus level, because of it's ease. There are more pizza boxes (health) than you could possibly need, and the level boss is a breeze as well. Overall, TMNT4: Turtles in Time is a definite classic that earns a great ranking in my books.

World 1-37: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Super Mario RPG was my very first Role Playing Game, and I can't think of any better game to have started the genre with. It's easy to get the hang of, features the same familiar characters from all the Mario series, and also introduces a couple cool new characters who could have gone on to have their own careers, but sadly did not.

Super Mario RPG is a great game on so many different levels. First of all, you can roam around like many other Mario games, except this time you have three dimensions to explore. It's almost impossible to lose sight of your current goal, and even if you do happen to forget what you were supposed to be doing, you can always stop by Tadpole Pond and have a chat with Frogfucius and he will give you a hint. There are tons of side quests and mini games to indulge in along the way, such as the Grate Guy Casino and even a Final Fantasy-esque boss named Culex. There are also some cameos of other famous Nintendo characters. All in all, Super Mario RPG is an incredible game that anybody and everybody should play. Super Mario RPG is also relatively short for an RPG (I didn't write down my time, but I think it was something like 7 hours), so even if you aren't a huge fan of the genre, you should definitely check this game out.

World 1-36: Super Bomberman (Again)

I actually goofed up and counted this one twice in the same trophy room. For my original post, check the link here.

World 1-35: Diablo II (Again)

This was my second time beating Diablo II in a one year span (Back in 2009). Diablo II is a great game on so many levels, but my favourite aspect of the Diablo series is that it plays into the horror/hack and slash theme so well. The theme is actually done so well that you feel as if you are walking the plains of the Rogue Encampment, or you are there dashing through the wild deserts of Lut Gholein.

There are also many aspects of Diablo II that have been vastly expanded upon from the original Diablo game, such as being able to run (and subsequently, given stamina to control how long you can run for) and being able to equip two different sets of armor at once for a quick exchange. Diablo II is a very engaging game, and has been thoroughly enjoyed by many different types of people, despite it's darker theme (which usually seems to attract less people).

World 1-34: Chrono Trigger

After 50 hours and 58 minutes, I finally beat Chrono Trigger for the very first time. I originally tried to play Chrono Trigger on Playstation, but I couldn't get past the horrible load times. I didn't even make it past the Millenia Fair! That was years ago. Then one day, in 2009, I had a two week wait for our internet to be hooked up again. After days of Solitaire, I finally remembered I had Chrono Trigger waiting to be played!

Chrono Trigger is an absolutely amazing game. Even though I had my fair share of frustrations with this game, there is nothing I would change about it. There are so many memorable moments, so much great scenery, and a stunningly beautiful soundtrack that come together to forever mark this game as a true classic.
