World 1-65: Factory Balls 2

Game 65: Factory Balls 2
http://www.kongregate.com/games/bontegames/factory-balls-2

Somehow I ended up with the screen shot for this one before the screenshot of the original Factory Balls game, but I know I beat the first game before this.

As with the first Factory Balls game, you need a certain level of patience and understanding to finish this game. You start each level with a solid white ball, and you must follow the design on the picture given for each level to style the ball and move forward. It starts out fairly simple, but as you get going, each level gets progressively harder than the last. You are given a set amount of balls from the beginning, which act for the most part like the standard life system of many video games. The only difference is, with each level you complete, a ball is used up. So right from the beginning of the game, you can allot yourself with a certain amount of screw ups before you have to start from the top again.

Overall, the idea is unique and carried out well, with new additions and expansions from the first Factory Balls game. It's a great game to check out if you're feeling in the mood for a puzzle or two.

World 1-64: Enough Plumbers

Enough Plumbers
http://www.kongregate.com/games/Radx/enough-plumbers

This game was actually a lot of fun. As you can deduce from the picture and title of the game, it's sort of an homage to the one and only Mario. However, this game plays a lot differently than the 1985 NES game we all know and love. Enough Plumbers features addictive music and a very unique take on game play. You must navigate your way through 25 short levels by creating clones of yourself, accomplished by collecting coins. You must clear each levels obstacles to reach the final flag post to move on to the next level.

There are many interesting obstacles in each level, such as walls of fire that can be dominated by collecting conveniently placed chili peppers. Many levels also feature coloured blocks that block your path (similar to the switch palaces from Super Mario World on Super Nintendo, only reversed) which can be opened by activating a switch nearby. Each level is progressively harder than the last, and towards the end of the game it becomes quite difficult to clear the levels. I actually had to stop playing, and come back a month and a half later to finish the game. Overall, it was definitely worth the play for this very well composed and enjoyable game.

World 1-63: Demolition City

Demolition City
http://www.kongregate.com/games/ArmorGames/demolition-city

Demolition City is a great puzzle game themed after blowing up buildings strategically with dynamite. It was put together very well, featuring 20 levels with catchy music and cool sound effects that emphasize your strategic destruction. It's a short but fun game that calculates your damage in a dollar amount, which adds to the amusement of the game.

World 1-62: 3D Logic

3D Logic
http://www.kongregate.com/games/AlexMatveev/3d-logic

3D Logic is a very interesting logical thinking game. Each level features a cube with a few different colours, each with a start and finish that you need to connect by drawing a line between them. It starts out simple and works its way into some very difficult levels. 3D Logic takes a very refreshing outlook on puzzle games and challenges your mind with some very intricate puzzles.

World 1-61: Viricide

Viricide
http://www.kongregate.com/games/2DArray/viricide

Viricide is a simple yet extremely enjoyable shooting game. The colours work great, and the upgrade system is one of the best I've come across for a game on Kongregate. The final upgrade isn't impossible to obtain, and it actually does an appropriate amount of damage too. There is a story line for this game, but as with most games, I skipped through it and went straight for the game play. All in all, this game was put together very well, and while the graphics aren't state of the art, they are very clean appealing, which is a much better quality to have than high def graphics. As one of my favourite games on Kongregate, I highly recommend this game for some straight up blasting fun with very little learning curve if you've ever tried a shooter before.

World 1-60: Snail

Snail

Honestly, I only beat this game to get the achievement. I know I start a lot of Kongregate games with the sole intention of gathering achievements, but usually I can get into the game while I strive for the achievement, otherwise I'd find a different achievement to work towards. This game, however, was nothing like that. It dragged on forever (I think that was part of the joke) and was not enjoyable in the slightest. In fact, I'm giving this game my first zero rating, because it was so boring.

World 1-59: Red Remover

Red Remover
http://www.kongregate.com/games/TheGameHomepage/red-remover

Red remover is a point and click puzzle game that is actually quite addicting. All you need to do is remove the red shapes while saving the green shapes using simple strategy to ensure you've done everything correctly. You have unlimited continues, so while it may take you awhile to get some levels down pat, it's easy enough to complete this game.

World 1-58: Learn to Fly

Learn to Fly
http://www.kongregate.com/games/light_bringer777/learn-to-fly

Learn to Fly is a sideways launch game, one of my favourite genres for casual gaming. Basically all you do is help the penguin learn to fly - duh. You can get a few helpful upgrades to help you complete the in game achievements, which are required to move on to the next stages. Overall, it's a pretty fun game, albeit a little limited for it's genre.

World 1-57: Infectonator: Christmas Edition

Infectonator: Christmas Edition
http://www.kongregate.com/games/TogeProductions/infectonator-christmas-edition

Infectonator: Christmas Edition is basically the same thing as Infectonator: World Dominator, except you don't get to pick what level you'd like to play. It has almost all the same upgrades, which makes it just as fun as World Dominator. I highly recommend this game as well.

World 1-56: Infectonator: World Dominator

Infectonator: World Dominator
http://www.kongregate.com/games/TogeProductions/infectonator-world-dominator

Infectonator: World Dominator is an absolutely fantastic game! I have beaten it at least four or five times now. The graphics are simple, blood splatter is definitely present, and the music is flat out addicting. The main goal of the game is to take over the world by infecting as many people as possible, one city at a time. It's a simple point and click basis, but as you expand to new areas of the world and purchase upgrades, you can gain more virus clicks and helpful items like grenades for an instant kill too.

Unfortunately, the game has bugged out a little bit on the site, making it seem like you can't play any more after finishing one level. The good news is, it's not completely unplayable! It's annoying, but you just have to hit tab a couple of times until the bottom right corner is highlighted with a yellow box, then hit enter. You will have to do this each time you complete a level, but I assure you it is completely worth it!

World 1-55: Great Game 1/5

Great Game 1/5
http://www.kongregate.com/games/5minutesoff/great-game-1-5

Great game 1/5 is one of those games that doesn't really make sense. It seems to be making a mockery of some of the terrible games around. Doing it's best to be intentionally bad, there is no music, very little sound effects, and no tutorial whatsoever (not that you really need one). As soon as you open the game, it shows the loading bar, then another one, and then another one. Just for waiting through it, you unlock an achievement! There are quite a few achievements to be earned, and they're almost all super easy to get. Each level features a different theme of game; you play a simple platforming level, then you pass through a maze, and there's even a mini tower defense level too. One of the quirks of this game is that every time something weird happens in the game, a message pops up on the bottom with your own Kongregate ID, making you complain about the game. It even displays the correct date inside the comment box too. All in all, since this is a spoof game, I wouldn't really recommend it. It was pretty boring and probably only funny if you're in on all the jokes (which I'm not). I can't think of any better score to give this game than 1/5!

World 1-54: Factory Balls

Factory Balls
http://www.kongregate.com/games/bontegames/factory-balls

Factory Balls is a pretty interesting game where you have to colour and shape the ball according to the requirements of each level using the tools supplied. It's basically a point and click scenario (all you have to do is drag the ball on top of the tool to use it) which makes it simple to understand, but hard to master!

World 1-53: Achievement Unlocked

Achievement Unlocked
http://www.kongregate.com/games/ArmorGames/achievement-unlocked

A game that thrives on the idea that people are completely addicted to achievements. The best part is, it totally works! You can get achievements just for moving, muting the game, checking out the tutorial, and other crazy yet completely simple things. Earn you way to the top!

World 1-52: Mushroom Madness 2

Mushroom Madness 2
http://www.kongregate.com/games/KingDotCom/mushroom-madness-2

Basically all you have to do in Mushroom Madness 2 is smash the hedgehogs as they edge their way in to steal your mushrooms. You can get plenty of weapon upgrades, and eventually you also get to fight bears and birds too. It's really addicting and a lot of fun.

World 1-51: Bloons

Bloons
http://apps.facebook.com/mindjolt/games/bloons

I didn't actually beat this game on Kongregate, I found an app hosting it on Facebook and I beat it there. Bloons is actually a pretty addicting game, I've beat it a couple times now. The later versions are quite enhanced versions, but the original is where it all began. So while it's not perfect, it still earns a high rank for being original and fun, and starting a great new series of games.

Introduction to the Kongregate Files

During my quest to beat 100 games, I often found myself winding down from the grind of awesome overload (caused by playing so many classic games in such a short time) by logging on to www.kongregate.com to play user-made flash games. When I first stumbled across Kongregate, I was immediately drawn in by two factors: One: that the site had achievements which earned you points that added to your site level, and Two: that I could zone out on so many different games because there was no learning curve to many of them.

In my time spent on Kongregate, I have come across countless engaging and amusing games, and even ones that do have quite a learning curve to them - such as Gemcraft. Gemcraft is actually a really well made game, and I found myself completely sucked into it as soon as Gemcraft Labyrinth was released. I can't count how many hours I played that game for.

With my introduction to my Kongregate files over, you can now expect to see many games from the site to be posted here as big part of trophy room. Oh, and if you have a Kongregate account, feel free to add me! Here's the link to My Profile.

World 1-50: Mega Man

Mega Man
~NES

What's there to say about this age old classic? The storyline is simple (lacking, really), the game play is ridiculously hard, and the music is somehow a little less awesome than I remember, but still pretty kick ass. Perhaps I have just been spoiled by the awesome soundtrack of the X series. However, there's a reason this series had so many sequels. It has a special kind of charm that will always guarantee it a place in the trophy room (and heart - lol cheesy) of any decent gamer.

World 1-49: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
~Nintendo 64

Kirby 64 is an insanely cute game. All the sound effects make you go "aww!" so hard your eyes nearly pop out of your head, and the music is a matching level of adorable. As if that wasn't enough of a cuteness overload, then there's all this candy and cute food for you to eat too! Beyond all the outrageously cute though, there is a serious side to this game. Like every other Kirby game, you can swallow your enemies to absorb their powers. Except in Kirby 64, you can mix the powers of the enemies to create new combinations to take you to even more exciting areas! The combinations are imaginative and useful - for example, you can become a refrigerator that pops out food so you can regain health. The bosses are also original. In one case, you have to fight your artist friend, who paints up enemies for you to fight. Overall, Kirby 64 is a really enjoyable game that I would definitely play again.

World 1-48: Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

Now this game offered a good challenge! I'm not very good at this particular game (which I might mention is the exact same as Kirby's Avalanche, which I own on SNES), so it had me and Nick going for a good hour or two. The third last guy was actually the hardest... and believe it or not, the final boss was one of the easiest challengers of them all. A nice break at the end of an increasingly ridiculous game. I'm proud to have this one on my list; I never thought it would make it's way here.

World 1-47: Golden Axe II

Golden Axe II - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

This game is worth a play if you're looking for a filler in your video game ending collections. It was super short and I honestly wasn't even trying to beat it, I was just trying to get the PS3 trophy for beating the tower level. Just one more trophy and then we'll have them all!

Golden Axe II was an okay game. I obviously had it on easy mode, so it was a breeze to complete. I disliked that the magic potions didn't stack up to become stronger like in other Golden Axe games, but I found that with this method, I got to use them more often. There were plenty of potions to go around, too. That about wraps up my review - there's really not much else to say about this game because it was only half an hour long.

World 1-46: Streets of Rage II

Streets of Rage II - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

Streets of Rage II, much like the original Streets of Rage, is a really cool beat 'em up game, and it's great for co-op play. It's hard to find a game as enjoyable as the ones in the Streets of Rage series, but this series does it. They have that perfect old time classic video game feel to them that keeps you coming back for more. Fortunately, there is also a Streets of Rage III to cure your itch for original content, but unfortunately I have not completed it yet.

World 1-45: Space Harrier

Space Harrier - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

Wow, all I have to say is this is one CRAZY ass game. It was a bit long for an old game, coming in at 18 stages, but it's a totally mind boggling awesome rail shooting game. It's a good thing you get unlimited continues, because I don't know how far I would have got without them. Every 5 seconds (or less) you're crashing into something new and equally as insane as the last object that took you out. Space Harrier is actually a pretty fun game, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are prone to seizures or something.

World 1-44: Streets of Rage

Streets of Rage - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

Honestly, I don't know why the hell we got the "Bad End" in this game! We made it to the final boss and he asked us if we'd like to join him or whatever, so obviously we said no, figuring we'd get a good ending out of it. Then he makes us KILL each other, and then the surviving character has to kill the boss after! You become the new boss, and, well... get a bad ending. I don't know about you, but killing the old boss and becoming the new one sounds pretty good to me. Anyways this game was a lot of fun to play. I would definitely play it again, especially on 2P.

World 1-43: Altered Beast

Altered Beast (Arcade) - Via Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
~PS3

Altered Beast has always been a classic in my books. There's nothing incredibly special about it, but the music always gives me a great sense of nostalgia, and the game play is simple and straight forward which makes it easy for anybody to pick up and love. The story is basic, where some sort of royalty (probably a king) asks you to rescue his daughter, so you set off on a mission to save her. There doesn't seem to be any names for any of the characters, but it works well for this game.

Altered Beast features flashing beasts which drops orbs that you must collect in order to power up and transform into a new beast in each level, true to the title of the game. It's fairly short, as there are only 4 levels (and only 3 monsters to transform into - the last level featuring Gold and Silver versions of the first beast transformation).

As a side note, the arcade version is a lot more fun than the home console version. The graphics are much smoother, the colours are better, and while my favourite music sequence that plays between levels is faster than the home version, the whole game just turned out better for the arcade. I would recommend this game to anybody who likes a simple arcade classic that doesn't have much of a learning curve.

World 1-42: Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
~PS3

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (From hereon out known as "ToD") is officially in my top 5 favourite games ever. This picture is from my second time completing the game, and I have since beat it another one or two times, as well as it's wonderful sequel Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Both games are very similar, and both games are of amazing quality. The graphics are incredibly, the storyline is engaging, the music fits to each planet perfectly, and the scenery is absolutely gorgeous! There are lots of weapons you can collect throughout the game, and they upgrade with exp by killing enemies, making them easy enough to upgrade while following the main story, or giving you the perfect reason to check out the battle arena to gain some extra cash at the same time as leveling up your guns. Overall, I think ToD is one in a great series of games and became an instant classic in my books the second I picked it up.

World 1-41: Hexic

Hexic
~Xbox 360

Hexic is a pretty simple puzzle game that Nick and I found on our Xbox 360 because our friend had downloaded it when the Xbox 360 belonged to him. Hexic is actually pretty addicting! As you can see, I put 22 minutes into this round alone. It's easy to play three or four rounds in a row, if not more. You can spend many hours playing Hexic; it's kind of like Tetris in that regard. It doesn't have the same classic feel as Tetris, but it's still a worthy time sink. If you like puzzles but need some variation from Tetris, then Hexic is probably a good game for you.
